Summit Fire and Medical District is no longer approved to issue open burn permits on behalf of the ADEQ. Please follow the link to ADEQ and complete the application for an annual permit (click here). Per ADEQ, once an annual permit has been obtained, daily notification to Summit Fire and Medical District is required. Please fill out the form below for the daily notification.

*During the permit application, when asked “For Coconino, will you be burning within any of the listed Fire Jurisdictions?” You will need to select NO. The fire districts listed are those who are approved to issue permits, Summit Fire is not approved and will not appear as a selection option. There will be a location later in the application to type in Summit Fire and Medical District.

ARS 13-1706. It is unlawful for any person, without lawful authority to intentionally, knowingly recklessly or criminal negligence to set or cause to be set on fire any wildland other than the person’s own or permit a fire that was set or caused to be set by the person to pass from the person’s own grounds to the grounds of another person. A person who violates this section is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor, class 2 misdemeanor, class 3 felony or class 6 felony.

What can I burn?

You are permitted to burn only the following materials: Weeds, paper, and branches.

What materials am I NOT allowed to burn?

All plastic materials, waste petroleum products, hazardous material containers, aerosol spray containers.

When do I fill out the Burn Notification Form?

Each day you plan to burn! Please be a courteous neighbor and fill out your name and address in the Burn Notification tab. Once the form is completed it will be sent to the On-Duty Battalion Chief and to Forest Service Dispatch to alert for possible smoke in area. If you plan to burn on more than one day, please fill out a burn notification each day you burn.

What are the times that I can burn?

The times range depending on the time of year.

Fires are not permitted prior to the start time and must be completely out by the end time.

Can I have a small campfire (warming fire) on my property?

Yes, we just ask that you keep the fire small and that you put it completely out when you are finished. Please be a courteous neighbor and fill out your name and address above. Once the form is completed it will be sent to the On-Duty Battalion Chief and to Forest Service Dispatch to alert for possible smoke in area. Keep in mind if we get a call about a fire on your property we will come out.
